2025 Korean Speech Contest for Global Leaders

At the 2025 YU Korean Speech Contest, our student Nomsa Faith Nungu from Malawi was awarded the Excellence Award! The theme of this year’s contest was “UNDERSTANDING THE SAEMAUL SPIRIT”, and Nomsa shared a heartfelt speech reflecting her deep understanding of Korea’s development and the Saemaul spirit. In her speech, Nomsa spoke about how she first became interested in Korea through K-dramas and K-pop, her experiences learning about Korea’s history and the Saemaul spirit at PSPS, and her dream of serving as a bridge between Korea and Malawi as a global citizen. She shared, “The spirit of diligence, self-help and cooperation has inspired me greatly. I hope to contribute to building happy and strong communities by connecting Korea and Malawi.” Nomsa’s achievement and inspiring speech served as a meaningful reminder to PSPS students of the importance of pursuing their dreams and embracing global citizenship.

2025 Media Creator Education

PSPS conducted media creator training in collaboration with the Public Relations team. A total of five teams, consisting of 20 students, volunteered to participate and successfully completed the training. The program was held over three sessions on June 25th, 28th, and 30th, during which students had the opportunity to learn about various fields within media. Additionally, each team had a meaningful experience creating promotional videos for PSPS.

Taekwondo Dance Performance

On June 20th, PSPS students showcased a special Taekwondo dance that combined traditional Korean martial arts with modern music. The performance, set to songs by Bruno Mars and ROSÉ’s "Apartment," beautifully blended Korean culture and rhythm, earning great applause. One student named Nomsa shared, “Performing the Taekwondo dance gave me a deeper connection to Korean culture and was a very meaningful experience.” Another student, Jimmy, said, “I only knew Taekwondo from movies and K-dramas before, but through the lessons and this performance, I learned so much and had a lot of fun with my friends.” After months of practice and hard work, the performance gave students a memorable sense of achievement. This performance marked a special moment for all the students involved.

2025 Gyeongsan Jain Danoje with PSPS Students

PSPS Students Experience Korean Tradition at Gyeongsan Jain Dano Festival On May 31, students from the Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul (PSPS) participated in the 2025 Gyeongsan Jain Dano Festival, engaging with local traditions and community members. As part of the festivities, PSPS students took part in a demonstration of hair washing with changpo (sweet flag) water, a traditional practice believed to ward off misfortune and promote good health. This meaningful cultural exchange allowed students to deepen their understanding of Korean heritage while fostering a spirit of global connection and mutual respect.

2025 President’s Special Lecture & Meeting (SED)

Yeungnam University’s President Choi Oe-chool held two meaningful events with international students majoring in Saemaul Economic Development (SED) at the Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul. The special lecture took place on April 18, followed by a dedicated meeting on May 29. During the April 18 special lecture, President Choi highlighted the core values of the Saemaul Spirit—diligence, self-help, and cooperation—which formed the foundation for Korea’s rural revitalization and rapid economic growth. He emphasized that these principles remain vital today as models for sustainable development worldwide. This inspiring talk deepened students’ understanding of their major and strengthened their confidence in their academic and career paths. In the May 29 meeting, students actively participated in an open Q&A session where they shared academic experiences, discussed future goals, and explored opportunities for international cooperation. President Choi encouraged them to embrace their roles as proactive leaders in global development, reinforcing the mission of the Saemaul Economic Development program. Together, these events fostered a stronger sense of pride and connection between the students and Yeungnam University, showcasing the university’s commitment to nurturing future leaders grounded in both theory and practical values.

2025 YU Festival

During the festival of the university, the PSPS students ran on 26,27 and 28 May 2025, which was organized by the newly formed student council. The booth distributed free desserts, promoting various countries the students are from. And they prepared many games to build friendships with Korean students. The highlight of the booth was a fashion show which introduced the national costumes of these countries while the traditional music of each country was played.

2025 Coming-of-age Ceremony Event with the PSPS students

When I wear the Hanbok, I feel so feminine—like a young girl, or even a princess. I understand that this event celebrates the moment when children become adults. When I was a child in Myanmar, I participated in a similar kind of event. Our traditional clothes also have decorative elements depending on the design, but the feeling is quite different. This is my first time experiencing something like this, and I really appreciate being able to experience Korean culture and traditions. – Hsu Htoo Nandar Aung(PPL) I decided to participate in this event because I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of Korean culture and the unique local traditions. Previously, I had only read about these things in books, but I had never experienced them in person. So it is truly an honor for me to take part in this coming-of-age ceremony. – Ma Yuan(SED) The PSPS students participated in the Korea traditional coming-of-age ceremony hosted by the Yeungnam University Museum. Students were able to improve their understanding of Korean culture and learn the attitude of respect for various cultures by wearing hanbok, a traditional Korean clothing, and experiencing the traditional way of coming of age. Students who participated in the event said they had a meaningful time through unforgettable experiences and were happy to make good memories in Korea.

Field Study to Korea Water Cluster

On May 9, PSPS Students visited the Korea Water Cluster in Daegu, a hub for cutting-edge water industry technologies and infrastructure. The field trip provided an excellent opportunity for the students to enhance their understanding of advanced water management systems and current developments in the water industry. During the visit, students toured key facilities within the cluster, including research and testing centers, and were introduced to innovative technologies used in water purification, resource recycling, and smart water management. The experience offered valuable insights into how Korea is addressing global water challenges through industry-academia-government collaboration. This hands-on learning experience deepened the students' knowledge of the water sector and highlighted the importance of sustainable water resource management.
